RALEIGH, N.C. — The body of a 9-year-old boy who went missing at Falls Lake on Wednesday has been recovered.

Officials told WRAL's Rosalia Fodera that witnesses say a juvenile had difficulty after jumping into the water. They were apparently treading water and went under.

Wake deputies, Wake County Marine Team, along with partnering agencies from Northern Wake Fire Department, Wake EMS and a dive team from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the distress call at Falls Lake, near Old Weaver Trail and Cheek Road off Interstate 85 around 6 p.m. Sky 5 was over the scene as dive and search crews were dragging the lake along the base.

About two hours into the search, the body of the juvenile was recovered not far from the area where officials said he was last seen before going underwater.

There were several boats in the water conducting the search along with personnel on the ground.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office and CCBI continue to investigate.
