Bluegrass organizers move all weekend events indoors
Performances, awards and a business conference are all ahead this week as the International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass returns to Raleigh.
Posted — UpdatedHurricane Ian is expected to impact North Carolina this weekend, when the event's Bluegrass Live! festival was scheduled to be help outdoors in downtown.
Organizers announced Tuesday that all performances and vendors associated with the event would be moving indoors.
The performers scheduled to play the outdoor stages at Bluegrass Live! will be move to the Raleigh Convention Center. The beer garden, jam tents and more than 100 vendors will also be moved into the convention center.
The main stage performances planned at Red Hat Amphitheater are moving to Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Reserved seating purchased in advance will be honored.
In 2015, the IBMA board moved the outdoor street festival and Red Hat Amphitheater shows into the convention center due to Hurricane Joaquin.
The five-day bluegrass event kicks off Tuesday with the IBMA Business Conference featuring networking events and professional sessions. On Tuesday night, the Bluegrass Ramble brings artist showcases to venues throughout downtown. Tickets are required for both events.
The event organizers told WRAL News despite Ian, ticket sales are up for the festival. They said they felt it was because this is the first time in two years the festival wasn’t under COVID restrictions.
