RALEIGH, N.C. — Bill Leslie got a big surprise when two old friends and colleagues from the 90s visited him on set during the morning newscast on Wednesday.

Laurie Clowers and Mark Roberts worked closely with Bill during his first years at WRAL. Clowers served as a news anchor and reporter between 1998 and 2006, and Roberts, who made a name for himself as WRAL's "trafficologist," was hired as a reporter in 1990 before becoming WRAL's first full-time traffic reporter in 1999.

"You know this state better than anyone in the world," Clowers said to Bill on Wednesday, reflecting on how everyone at the station would come to him for help pronouncing town names and landmarks.

Roberts and Bill also had quite the reunion, singing and joking together while reflecting on years past.

An entire week of surprises is in store for Bill before his June 29 retirement.

Visit his farewell page to learn more, and watch WRAL-TV on Thursday at 7 p.m. for a 30-minute special honoring Bill and his career.
