Black Restaurant Week underway in the Triangle

The event, which aims to support Black-owned businesses in the community, starts Friday, April 22, and runs through Sunday, May 1.

CARY, N.C. — Sweet oatmeal waffles, perfectly cooked collared greens and crispy chicken breast.

That’s what you can find at Dame’s Chicken and Waffles in Cary.

Right now, they’re supporting Black Restaurant Week.

The event, which aims to support black owned businesses in the community started Friday and runs through Sunday, May 1st.

Michael Newell is the owner at Dame's Chicken and Waffles in Cary. He said he couldn’t be more proud to have his restaurants name on the list.

”I feel like there are a lot of people who want to support local. They want to support locally owned black owned businesses but don’t necessarily know what they are or who they are," said Newell. ”Just by having that exposure it’s excellent to bring a new customers."

Returning customers like Emma Eldridge are happy to support in any way they can.

”We were looking at the pictures on the wall and talking earlier about how neat they were the vibe and the jazz and everything. We love it," said Eldridge "It’s delicious food."

Brian Snipes agrees.

”The hospitality, the way they do things," said Snipes. "I’m happy very happy [to support them]."

It’s safe to say - he’ll be back.

”Just the exposure and letting people know that we’re here is really priceless," said Newell.

Black Restaurant Week runs through May 1.
