DURHAM, N.C. — The Black Farmers' Market opened for the 2020 season in Durham on Sunday, and people lined down the block to show their support for minority farmers and entrepreneurs in the Triangle.

The event is part of an effort to connect black-owned business owners and black farmers to their community.

"It feels like a family environment," said vendor Kiera Gardner. "It was amazing just being able to share the love and once again connect to each other."

Efforts to social distance meant customers had to wait to get in.

Once inside, fourteen different vendors offered customers a wide array of food and merchandise.

"The pandemic that's going on, a lot of the stuff that's going on here, a lot of the farmers really suffered through this. A lot of small business suffered through this so it's just so great as a community to come out and try to help out as much as we could," said. customer Brian

The event is now going to be held bi-monthly.
