Birds and Arrows

WRAL Photojournalist Greg Hutchinson catches up with the Chapel Hill band, Birds and Arrows.

When Josh Starmer first met Pete and Andrea Connolly of Birds and Arrows, he said he was “spellbound.” He described them as sounding much bigger than a two-piece band and made sure he said hi to them after their set.

“Man, these guys are weird,” Starmer said of his first meeting with the couple. He then qualified that thought by saying, “They were too nice.”

It wasn’t long after that meeting when a mutual friend further acquainted Starmer with Pete and Andrea.

Starmer, with a background playing the cello was given the opportunity to play a few songs with the Connolly’s. And now, there are three members to the Chapel Hill group, Birds and Arrows.

Let me just say this, Josh was right about Pete and Andrea being too nice. The minute I walked into their home to shoot this video blog, I felt warmly received. And then I got to hear them play. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening!

I love the rich sound of Andrea’s voice mixing with Josh’s cello and Pete’s harmony. I was sad to leave, I almost asked them to play me a song while I was packing up my gear. They are kind of addicting.

Give this band a chance, they want to evolve and I personally can’t wait to hear where their sound goes from here.

As always, check out their video and links!
