WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — I truly love a quiet late winter’s day at the beach with a cup of coffee at sunrise.

There are treasures to be found and admired.

There are many views to be savored.

I am awash in memories of childhood. It was many years ago and but still perfectly clear.

I’m reminded of the very first time I laid eyes on the Atlantic as a child and was totally wowed by the wide wonder of it all.

The first footprints I made in the sand.

And as I walked, the salty smell of the air and the graceful sway of the sea oats.

And then – looking out and listening to the roar of the waves and the prolific patterns of retreating water on the shoreline.

Later – finding a comfy place for a book and a drink and looking out at others mesmerized by the moment.

And then, the dramatic end of the day with crimson-colored clouds and tinkling wind chimes in the distance.

And the soulful silence of the setting sun.
