Bicyclist shot in Rocky Mount drive-by

The occupants of a vehicle shot a bicyclist riding along Grand Avenue early Wednesday, Rocky Mount police said.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The occupants of a vehicle shot a bicyclist riding along Grand Avenue early Wednesday, Rocky Mount police said.

Police said a dark-colored car pulled alongside Michael Cooley as he was riding a bike at 708 E. Grand Ave. around 3:30 a.m. An occupant of the car fired a gun, hitting Cooley once, officers said.

Cooley was transported to Nash General Hospital.

Police described the vehicle as a green Ford Taurus or Nissan Maxima.

Anyone who was in the area of East Grand and Park avenues between 3 a.m. and 3:40 was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111 or Capt. Martin McCoy at 252-972-1485. Callers to Crime Stoppers never have to identify themselves.
