Money has ranked Raleigh No. 4 in their annual list of Best Places to Live in the U.S.

Money has ranked Raleigh No. 4 in their annual list of 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S.

The annual ranking looks at economic opportunities, quality of life, diversity and "where the best futures lie."

Atlanta, Ga., topped the list, followed by Tempe, Ariz., and Kirkland, Wash.

The ranking recognized Raleigh as No. 4 for its green space (more than 9,000 acres), restaurants and diversity, citing the Out! Raleigh Pride festival and the African American Cultural Festival. It also named employers IBM, Cisco Systems, Pfizer and North Carolina State University.

According to Money, Raleigh's population is 460,673. The city's median home price is $411,400 and the median income level is $78,858.

The study cited Raleigh for its overall cost of living when compared with other cities on the list.

Chapel Hill also ranked high, at No. 12., and was praised for UNC Chapel Hill and its "quaint" and "family-friendly" feel. The median home price in Chapel Hill is $470,587.
