Benson woman hit, killed while walking along Highway 50
A Benson woman was killed while walking along Highway 50 on Wednesday night.

Benson police said officers responded to an area just outside of town along the highway around 8:30 p.m.
According to reports, Catherine Renee Hayes was walking in the roadway when she was struck and killed by a vehicle heading north. Police believe Hayes was walking on Benson Hardee Road and made her way onto Highway 50 North. Hayes was hit by a woman driving a Cadillac Escalade.
Hayes, 50, was from Benson.
Benson police say the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. No charges are expected to be filed.
Police think that patchy fog and the victim’s dark clothing contributed to the accident.
