HARKERS ISLAND, N.C. — A massive helmet shell was found on the Cape Lookout National Seashore, the organization posted online.
Helmet shells on the shore are usually about the size of a fist, the Cape Lookout National Seashore’s Facebook page said, but the “jackpot” of a shell was about four times the size.
“Beach treasure!” the organization posted. “Every once in a while we are in the right place at the right time to find a treasure such as this large helmet shell.”
The shore, on Harkers Island, is part of the National Park Service.
