Keep an eye out for "space stones" around the Triangle.

Hand-painted stones depicting astronomy as well as space exploration's past, present and future can be found in public places all throughout the Triangle. Stones were recently found in Pullen Park in Raleigh for example.

The stones were created by Anastasia Vail, a new volunteer in the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador program. Vail also serves as as co-chair and social media director for the Raleigh Astronomy Club.

"The intention is for these stones to fall into the hands of curious children (and adults), providing them with their own special little piece of our universe." explained Vail. "I hope this will help spark public interest in astronomy and space exploration history.

In addition to the stones which are the finders to keep, Vail plans to give away a prize pack including NASA and astronomy items, picked randomly from those who share their find on her Facebook page.
