RALEIGH, N.C. — In conjunction with the International Bluegrass Festival, 28 cookers were smoking all night as the top BBQ chefs from across the state competed in The Whole Hog Barbecue Championship in downtown Raleigh on Saturday morning.

The contest is a culmination of more than 25 regional competitions with top winners in each being offered a chance to compete in Saturday's championship event. Proceeds will be donated to the InterFaith Food Shuttle and the IBMA Bluegrass Trust Fund, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to bluegrass professionals experiencing financial emergencies.

The event is sponsored by the North Carolina Pork Council.
