WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — BB&T has issued a warning of a scam popping up where their banking customers are being targeted and money taken from them.
NBC affiliate WCNC reports the scam involves a situation where a customer could get a text asking if they’ve made a large purchase. Once the customer replies to the text, they will get a phone call from someone saying they work for BB&T.

If the customer is in doubt of the validity of the call, the person on the line will tell them to Google the number for BB&T, which corresponds with the person making the call.

BB&T told WCNC the scam is not new and that it sent out an alert to customers in May about such a scam. BB&T said it is looking at each case to determine if customers can be reimbursed.
