Battleboro man sought in fatal hit-and-run

Police issued warrants Friday for the arrest of a Rocky Mount man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last weekend.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Police issued warrants Friday for the arrest of a Battleboro man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last weekend.

Madison Earl Howlett, 26, is wanted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.

Edward Arrington Whitaker Jr., 55, found dead Sunday night near a Kangaroo Express gas station on N.C. Highway 48 in the Goldrock section of Rocky Mount, police said. An autopsy determined that he died of severe internal injuries after being hit by a car.

Police didn't release information about how they linked Howlett to Whitaker's death.
