Exterior of house torn away after multi-day police standoff in Fayetteville neighborhood, barricaded suspect in custody
According to neighbors, a man shot into several homes on July 4. When police tried to get him to come out, he fired at them.
Posted — UpdatedNeighbors in the area of Reilly Road around the Loch Lomond neighborhood watched as a large police presence and Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to serve commitment papers to a barricaded man.
Members of the Emergency Response Team were also on the scene to ensure the safety and security of officers and neighbors.
Police say the incident started around 8:36 p.m. on Saturday, when they began negotiating with a barricaded man in the 300 block of Desmond Drive. For hours, the Crisis Negotiation Team tried to encourage the suspect to exit the home peacefully.
Pavletic was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after that nearly 12-hour standoff. He remains in custody. Neighbors told WRAL News the incident had lasted multiple days. Police only released information about the past 12 hours, which encompassed Saturday and Sunday.
Neighbors said Pavletic had done handy work for several of them, adding he had a history of mental health issues but nothing ever as bad as recently.
According to neighbors, Pavletic shot into several homes on July 4. He refused to come out of his home after the incident and that's when police started to check on him.
After continued coordinated efforts between Fayetteville Police Department, State Bureau of Investigation, and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the man finally left the home.
Photos of the home show severe damage to the exterior wall of the house. In places, it has been completely destroyed, allowing for a full view of the inside of the home. Furniture and insulation are seen pouring out of the broken walls. while siding dangles by a thread.
It is unclear what exactly caused this damage.
Bullet holes are apparent in windows of the home, as well as windshields of the armored police vehicles. According to neighbors, many of the neighborhood residents have military backgrounds.
Pavletic was injured over the course of the standoff, but it's not clear how or when he was hurt or how severe his injuries were.
"A strong police presence is expected until paperwork can be served," said Fayetteville police on social media in a post from 8:09 p.m. on Saturday.
Some people are responding to the police's post claiming to live nearby, describing how scary the situation is and thanking the officers for their work.
