WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Police are investigating the theft of a trailer from outside Wake Forest High School that the school band uses to transport equipment to music competitions.

"You can't steal from the band," student Carly Gordon said Wednesday.

One of the band's two trailers was stolen sometime last week, but school officials said it's hard to pinpoint a time because fewer people are around during summer break. The school has turned its security videos over to Wake Forest police, hoping it will provide some clues.

"It's very upsetting to me. In fact, our entire school community, I'm sure, is responding the same way," Assistant Principal Dwayne Cook said.

With a competition coming up in September, Cheryl Vann, president of the band's booster club, said it will have to be a team effort to get the band there.

"It's what we use and what we need. Kids shouldn't have to deal with that," Vann said.
