MORRISVILLE, N.C. — After nearly a five-hour long delay, officials from Raleigh-Durham International Airport announced that the baggage conveyor system at Terminal 2 was restored to full operation at 4 p.m.

Authorities did not provide any information on what caused the mechanical issue.

"The belt just completely stopped," one traveler, Eladio Munoz said. "They've got bags waiting. We're flying with American Airlines and pretty sure we were told they're about to move them...So now we're worried if our bags are going to get crossed, and hopefully they don't get misplaced."

A spokesperson for the airport said in a written statement that airport staffers manually moved passengers' luggage to the security checkpoint during the outage.

Seven of the nine airlines that operate in the terminal were affected by the issue, and include: Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Frontier, JetBlue and United.

Airport officials advised departing passengers to check their bags at curbside locations to avoid any additional delays.

Delta and Spirit airlines were not affected by the mechanical issue, airport officials said.

The airport continues to advise passengers to arrive two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.
