Baby Steps: Turn the tassel, turn the page

Move over Scotty McCreery … our focus last Saturday was on something far different.

It finally happened! After more than three years of going to classes after work, group meetings on weekends and setting aside novels for textbooks, I finally have my MBA.

My parents drove down last week to be here for the graduation. And we followed that up by a celebration in style with a nice dinner at 42nd Street Oyster Bar. Admittedly, we were able to catch a little bit of WRAL’s coverage of Scotty’s Homecoming along the way.

It hit me while we were in the RBC Center that this graduation was the biggest I’d ever been in! More than 500 students earned degrees from the Poole College of Management this May. The journalism school at the University of Maryland might’ve been that size in total. My high school ceremony actually involved many more graduating students years ago at Constitution Hall, but still less than this most recent graduation.

I now have all kinds of new found time on my hands. I have time to volunteer at the animal shelter. I have time to read fun books. I have time to work with my sorority or teach swimming lessons again. And – most importantly – I have time to spend, without distraction, researching how we will move forward trying to start a family.

I know I haven’t had many updates on this front in a while…and I hope this benchmark will mean we’ll soon have something new to share.
