Baby's remains found in Lumberton woods

Police have found the remains of a baby in a wooden area in Lumberton.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — Police have found the remains of a baby in a wooded area in Lumberton.

A 911 caller contacted the Lumberton Police Department on May 29 to report that a women who lived in the Sunset Mobile Home Park had a stillborn child and threw the child's remains into a trash compacter.

When police arrived at the scene, they could not find the woman, the 911 caller or the child's remains in the trash compacter.

Police received additional information that led them to check a wooded area near Sanchez Drive, where they found the body.

At this time, no one has been charged in the death of the child. Officials are performing an autopsy to determine if charges should be filed.
