GASTONIA, N.C. — A newborn baby was recovering Saturday after being placed in the trunk of a car in Gastonia, authorities said.
Gastonia police said a woman, whose name has not been released, gave birth Friday night at her home. For reasons unknown, she placed the baby in a duffel bag in the trunk of a car and drove to her doctor’s office. The woman told doctors and police where to find the baby.
Police found the baby alive in the trunk early Saturday morning.
The baby’s condition was not immediately available, but officials said the infant was expected to be OK.
