DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham Sunday school teacher found dead in his home in December had been stabbed repeatedly, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday.

Trevor Spain, 41, was found face-down in a pool of blood in the basement of his family home, at 1301 Shepherd St, on Dec. 26, police said. Family members said there was no sign of forced entry, but several items were taken, including two TVs, cash and a DVD player.

The autopsy report said he had been stabbed twice in the chest, twice in the neck, in the left cheek and in the right forearm. He also had several blunt-force injuries, according to the report.

Jameel Rasaun Thornton, 28, of Liberty Street, has been charged with murder in the case. Police said he and Thornton were acquaintances, but they haven't released details of a possible motive for the stabbing.
