— A woman whose body was found in a wooded area of eastern Durham in January had been stabbed 36 times, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday.

An officer searching the woods for a break-in suspect found the body of Crystal Lynn Baker, 24, of Durham, near Chandler and Ross roads on Jan. 22.

An autopsy found Baker had been stabbed 21 times in the face, eight times in the back, three times in the abdomen and once each in the neck, in each thigh and above the right buttock, according to the autopsy report. She also suffered blunt-force trauma on her head.

Baker was wearing only one sock when her body was found, but there was no evidence of sexual assault, other than lacerations around her genitals, according to the autopsy report.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, extension 29335, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
