SANFORD, N.C. — A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday on a murder charge for the death over the weekend of 48-year-old Monty Leroy Simmons.

Simmons was found shot multiple times inside a home at 2218 Dalrymple St. late Saturday night.

Aaliyah Chalmers, 16, was also shot in the incident. She was being treated Monday at UNC Hospitals and was expected to recover.

Police did not say how the teen was connected to Simmons or the girl.

Alicia Williams Stone, Simmons' cousin, said the family is now grieving and that she did not know her cousin to get into trouble.

"I hope whoever did it, they get justice," she said. "The mother is grieving...he was a good person."

The teen was arrested Monday afternoon after a search and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a minor. He was scheduled to appear before a judge in Lee County juvenile court on Friday.

Police have not said what the motive was.
