SNOW CAMP, N.C. — A Moore County man wanted in connection with an attempted armed robbery Monday night was arrested Wednesday night, authorities said.

Alamance County deputies were responding to a report of shots fired when they encountered a bullet-riddled car driven by Trent Davis Jackson in Snow Camp, authorities said. Jackson was unharmed, but he said a man had rammed his car and then shot at him with a semi-automatic rifle, authorities said.

Jackson said that, after he stopped his car, the gunman, whom he identified as Billy Joe Garner, came up to the driver's window and demanded money. He then fled before deputies arrived.

Deputies said they recovered the weapon believed to have been used during the crime.

Garner, 42, of 126 Mallard Cove in Vass, was apprehended during a traffic stop in Cameron and was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Moore County deputies found methamphetamine, heroin and other drugs in the car during the stop, and Garner was charged with several drug offenses.

He was being held Thursday in the Alamance County jail under $350,000 bond.

During the robbery investigation, Alamance County deputies arrested Hannah Leigh Barth, 22, of 6448 Patterson Road in Snow Camp, on a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. She remains in the Alamance County jail under $40,000 bond.
