Authorities investigate after body found shot in Spring Lake
Authorities are investigating after a body was found near N.C. Highway 210 in Spring Lake.
Posted — UpdatedLaw enforcement officers were at the Carolina Sands Mobile Home Park around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. 210 and Britania Road. Jennifer Foxx, 34, was found in a pool of blood.
Foxx's friend, who did not want to be identified, made the gruesome discovery.
"I was just coming to go to work, and Jennifer was just lying on the side of the road, so I stopped my car and got out," she said. "She just had blood all over her, and her lips were blue, so I called the police."
Family members said that Foxx was kidnapped and attacked during a domestic violence incident in December.
"I'm sure something or someone in her history is going to play into her being a victim here, but right now, I know nothing of her past history," said Sean Swain, a spokesman with the sheriff's department.
Authorities identified Jeffrey Lynn McKinnon Jr. as a person of interest in the case and were trying to find him to talk with him, Swain said.
Foxx was known as "Shorty" and had two children.
"She was a wonderful friend. Shorty was the type of person who always had your back. If you were in trouble, she had you. If you needed somewhere to go, she was there," another friend said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest, Swain said.
Anyone with information about Foxx's shooting is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
