GARNER, N.C. — The Raleigh Police Department on Wednesday found a missing inmate who walked away from his work assignment in Garner two weeks ago.

Latroy Strickland, 41, was last seen in Garner around 4 p.m. on Sept. 20, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said. He failed to return to custody by 8:30 p.m. as required.

Police found Strickland before dawn Wednesday, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said.

He gave an alias to officers, authorities said, but they later confirmed he was the missing inmate.

Strickland was a minimum custody offender and was serving a sentence for multiple larceny and drug convictions.

His sentence started on March 20, 2018, and he was scheduled for release on Jan. 4, 2021.

He will be charged with escape as well as felony possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer and communicating threats.

He will go to a higher custody prison on Wednesday.
