Authorities: Benson dad injures son, stitches him up
A Benson man has been charged with child abuse after Johnston County deputies said he injured his son and then used fishing line to stitch up the wound.
Posted — UpdatedJohnathan Ashley Avery, 31, of N.C. Highway 242, was arrested Friday with felony child abuse. He was being held under a $100,000 bond.
Authorities said Avery hit his 6-year-old son on the head with a spoon, leaving a 3-inch cut. He then stitched up the wound instead of taking the boy to a doctor for treatment, authorities said.
The wound later became infected, and doctors alerted Johnston County authorities to the situation when Avery took the son to have the infection treated.
