Sanford, N.C. — The suspect in a five-hour standoff with Harnett County authorities at a home near Sanford Tuesday was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation, authorities said.
The scene was cleared after deputies found the suspect inside the home with several weapons.
Nearby homes were evacuated and many neighbors in the Carolina Hills subdivision say the situation blocked their access to their homes for several hours.
Authorities were called to the home, near Brentwood and Buffalo Lakes roads, around 2 p.m.
No other information was available.
