NEW HILL, N.C. — An Apex man faces a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of a motorcyclist last week, Chatham County authorities said Friday.

Deputies responding to a June 16 trespassing call in the 3300 block of Christian Chapel Church Road in New Hill found Brandon Wade Bryarley dead, authorities said. Bryarley, 33, of Staley, had been shot multiple times.

A co-worker at D.H. Griffin said Bryarley was a father of three and motorcycle enthusiast who liked to make people laugh. He was engaged to be married.

According to his obituary, Bryarley also enjoyed hunting and fishing. A graveside service is planned for Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty.

Investigators said James Edward Fox, 47, shot Bryarley following an altercation over trespassing. Fox told them he had an ongoing issue with strangers riding vehicles on his property and that Bryarley was riding a motorcycle on his land.

Fox was being held without bond in the Chatham County jail.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-542-2911.
