ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A man charged with attempted murder was mistakenly released from the Nash County Jail Friday morning, but was later apprehended, authorities said.

Terrence Lavern Andrews, 41, was released because he had completed a 30-day sentence for a probation violation. A jail officer didn't see that Edgecombe County authorities had placed a hold on Andrews because he is charged in that county with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Nash County Sheriff Dick Jenkins said.

Andrews was released at about 8:15 a.m. After the mistake was discovered, authorities took him back into custody at a friend's house at about 10:30 a.m., Jenkins said. Andrews offered no resistance and was taken to Edgecombe County, he said.

Jenkins declined to identify the jail officer or say if the person faces any disciplinary action.
