A teacher with an eight-year tenure at Raleigh's Athens Drive High School died Wednesday. In a message to families, Principal Stephen Mares wrote that Dr. Chris Credle, who was a career and technical education teacher, "died from complications due to a medical condition." He did not say what that condition was.

Credle, who leaves behind a wife, Amy, and several grown children, was "a positive force on campus," Mares wrote.

According to his instructor profile, Credle was an EMT and paramedic and taught those skills to students interested in careers as medical professionals and first responders.

Mares referred parents and teachers to grief support services available for free to all members of the school community. Extra counselors were deployed to the school Thursday to help students deal with the news.
