Large amounts of ammunition have recently been stolen from freight line shipping containers in Raleigh, Durham and Wilmington, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The ATF sent an alert to licensed firearms dealers, notifying them that sizable quantities of Winchester 9-millimeter ammunition were stolen from several North Carolina cities.

The alert included a warning that those involved in the thefts could try to sell the ammo to businesses in the area.

A description of the suspects was not provided, but surveillance footage from a site showed two vehicles, a gray four-door sedan and a silver SUV, that are believed to be connected to the thefts.

The agency says if you encounter any suspicious activity that you believe may be related to the recent thefts to contact an ATF field office.
