RALEIGH, N.C. — For nearly a dozen years, Geoff Akins' professional life has involved wowing kids and adults with bubbles - big ones, little ones, bubbles inside bubbles, kids inside bubbles and more.
With his Bubble Wonders Bubble Show, now in its second year at the N.C. State Fair, Akins has traveled to 10 countries and across the United States and Canada. He lives in British Columbia, Canada.

And it all started in a school classroom - his, specifically. While a special education teacher, Akins found a bottle of bubbles on a shelf in his classroom. He blew a couple of quick bubbles - and saw one of his students, a young boy on the autism spectrum, absolutely engaged.

This media cannot be viewed right now.

To the amazement of his teachers, "he broke routine to see what I was doing," Akins said. "Afterward, I wondered, 'What else could I have done with the bubbles?'"

That moment in the classroom eventually launched Bubble Wonders Bubble Show where Akins has figured all kinds of ways to entertain and mesmerize kids - and adults. He also works as a motivational speaker.

"You never know when a moment might change your life forever," he said.

During his shows at the fair, Akins provides some hands-on opportunities for kids to learn some bubble-blowing techniques and then shows off his bubble skills. The free shows run daily in Kiddieland through Sunday when the fair closes.

Find them at 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday; 1:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
