The N.C. Museum of Art is making plans for its summer series. And there are a few events parents might want to note.

The summer concert season will wrap up with two family-friendly performances. They are the Paperhand Puppet Intervention, which returns Sept. 9 to Sept. 11, with a new puppet show set to live music. Showtimes are 6:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are $7.50 to $15.

And family music stars Dan Zanes and Friends will be back for a third year with an interactive musical party on Sept. 17. This is a great show. The concert is at 6 p.m. Tickets are $9 to $18.

And the museum's outdoor summer movie series also includes a few family favorites. Since they're outdoors, the movies start late at 9 p.m. I think these would be fun for older kids and teens.

Movies to note:

  • "How to Train Your Dragon" is at 9 p.m., July 23.
  • "Rango" is at 9 p.m., Aug. 5.
  • "Back to the Future" is at 8:30 p.m., Aug. 20.

All these movies are rated PG. Movie tickets are $4. Visitors are welcome to bring picnics.

There's much more on the schedule if you're looking for date night ideas or a fun moms' night out. Check the full schedule for concerts and movies.

Tickets for both concerts and movies go on sale to the general public April 19.
