Arson suspect, 18, arrested after fire at Durham country club

A person is in custody after officials extinguished a large fire at a country club early Sunday morning.

DURHAM, N.C. — A man is in custody after officials extinguished a large fire they say was intentionally set at a country club early Sunday morning.

Around 4 a.m., firefighters with the Durham Fire Department responded to Treyburn Country Club, located at 1 Old Trail Drive. Officials say the fire involved the tennis clubhouse and that it did not reach the main building.

Officers with the Durham Police Department have arrested Steven Watts, 18, and charged him with arson of a commercial building, breaking and entering and larceny after a break-in. 

No one was injured in the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
