DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Thursday and police were searching for his cousin in a fatal shooting last month.

Christopher Emmanuel Wiggins, 20, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Dec. 1 death of Shawn Cade-Oree.

Cade-Oree, 29, was found shot in the head at a house in the 2200 block of Concord Street and died later at a local hospital. Police said the shooting appeared to have resulted from a dispute.

The shooting – area residents said they heard more than a dozen shots fired – prompted North Carolina Central University to issue a crime alert to students on the campus nearby.

Wiggins was arrested without incident in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn on N.C. Highway 55 by members of the Durham Police Department’s Selective Enforcement Team. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed gun.

Eric Gershon Wiggins, 25, of Durham, is wanted on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder, police said.

Anyone with information on Eric Wiggins' whereabouts is asked to call Durham police Investigator S. Pate at 919-560-4440, extension 29341, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
