DURHAM, N.C. — Police on Wednesday arrested a Durham man in connection with the shooting death of a man inside a local convenience store on Tuesday afternoon.

Rashaun Lamont Mason, 22, of Naples Place, was arrested in the 900 block of Massey Avenue. He was charged with murder and was placed in Durham County Jail, where he was being held without bond.

Officers responding to a disturbance call near Linwood and Alston avenues at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday found the body of Daniel Evans, 25, of Raleigh, inside Evans Mini Mart.

Evans didn't work at the convenience store, police said.

Witnesses told police that the shooting was linked to an earlier altercation in which a woman was injured. Several men chased a suspected participant in the altercation across the street and into the convenience store, where he was shot, witnesses said.

The woman was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of injuries that police said didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Investigators were still trying to identify a man wanted for questioning in the incident. They released a photo of the man taken by a store security camera.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
