Cary, N.C. — A Cary man has been arrested after authorities said he had sex with a 16-year-old student while he was a teacher in Arizona.
Authorities with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona said that Andrew Dale Hensley, who now lives in Cary, had sexual contact with the teenage student at least four times while he was employed as a fire science teacher at the Tech School in Coolidge, Arizona.
Authorities said the investigation into Hensley began in June, and he resigned from his teaching position shortly after, telling neighbors he was moving to North Carolina.
Search warrants show there is reason to believe Hensley relocated to North Carolina after exchanging communication with a 16-year-old girl in Cary.
After he left Arizona, school officials told authorities that sex toys were found in Hensley’s office at the school where he taught.
Hensley, 38, of 2106 Parable Way, was arrested Monday and charged with six counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. He was being held at the Wake County Jail under $100,000 bond.
During a first court appearance on Tuesday, Hensley agreed to wave extradition today and return to Arizona to face the charges.
