RALEIGH, N.C. — The high temperature on Friday topped out in the low 90s, but much cooler air is on the way for the weekend -- and you'll definitely feel the change Saturday morning.

"It's going to be a drastic change between today and tomorrow," WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell said. "We are really going to change seasons in a matter of 24 hours."

Temperatures are expected to drop over the next few hours

She said the high temperature will likely reach 93 degrees before taking a steep, 22-degree plunge overnight into Saturday, when the mercury will only reach the low 70s. The high temperature in Fayetteville reached 97, tying a record lodged by the city.

A high-pressure system lodged over the Great Lakes region will funnel cooler air from the northeast overnight into North Carolina, which will see breezy conditions, Campbell said. There is also a 20 percent chance of an isolated shower south of the Triangle as clouds increase.

Current Temperatures, DMA

Campbell said the temperature fall off could come with patchy drizzle Saturday morning.

Saturday will feel more seasonal.

"Fall finally arrives," Campbell said. "I think Friday will be the last 90-degree day this year."

7-Day Forecast

The mercury will only climb to the low 70s on Saturday before dipping to the low 60s for the overnight low temperature.

Sunday will be slightly warmer, with a high in the upper 70s and lows will range in the low-60s.
