RALEIGH, N.C. — For the teens out there who are curious about science and the parents who are wondering how to engage them, the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences has something for both of you.

The downtown Raleigh's next Teen Science Cafe is 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, at the Daily Planet Cafe, 11 W. Jones St. The theme is the science of superpowers.

It's free.

Here's a description, courtesy of the museum's website:

"Do you have unbreakable bones, incredible vision, or super strength? Could you be a superhero? At this Teen Science Café, Dr. Marianne Barrier from the Museum’s Genomics and Microbiology Research Lab will discuss how unique genetic traits give some individuals incredible 'superhuman' abilities. See if your genetic code makes the cut and assess your own skills."

Barrier researches genome technologies and how genetics is involved in human health. She also happens to be a huge MacGyver fan and enjoys improvising solutions to make things work with whatever’s available, according to the museum.

The museum's Teen Science Cafe is one of two regular science programs for teens in the Triangle. Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill also hosts monthly programs on the second Friday of each month.
