Halifax County man charged with arson

An 18-year-old man has been charged with arson in Halifax County, authorities said Saturday.

Stephon Garris, of Sneed Road, is charged with second-degree arson.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Garris set fire to the home he lives in after having an altercation with the other residents living there on Friday. After the other occupants left the home, Garris set the house on fire and then went to a family member’s house, authorities said.

Garris was being held under a $10,000 bond in the Halifax County jail on Saturday. His next court date is Jan. 19.
