Hemlock Bluffs reopens sooner than expected

Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve and the Stevens Nature Center in Cary have reopened.

Near perfect weather conditions have allowed workers to finish their work to protect trees from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgids earlier than expected.

Officials expected Hemlock Bluffs and the Stevens Nature Center to be closed all week starting Monday. Both reopened Wednesday. No other closures have been scheduled.

Hemlock Bluffs and the Stevens Nature Center are both hubs of the town's nature programs. And they also are just a great place to go for a quick hike. The Woolly Adelgids were found at the nature preserve earlier this summer. The insects have the potential to destroy its unique stand of Hemlock trees.
