A batch of thunderstorms moving in from the western part of the state prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday afternoon for much of central North Carolina.
The watch, which included Durham, Orange and Wake counties, was canceled at 11 p.m.

Some of the storms could have become strong or severe with a chance of gusty, damaging winds. No widespread damage was reported, however.
The storm did knock out power to homes in the area of Liberty Street and Alston Avenue in Durham just before 11 p.m.
The chance of rain continues into Wednesday, with storms possible mainly in the afternoon and evening.
