Amtrak train strikes, kills pedestrian

An Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a pedestrian early Saturday afternoon on tracks underneath the Interstate 85 bridge south of Hillsborough.

Orange County emergency dispatchers said that the westbound train hit Ronald McMahan, 63, of Hillsborough, around 12:45 p.m. on tracks passing underneath I-85 between mile markers 164 and 165.

No train passengers were injured, and the train was not derailed.

Authorities have not released more details.
