Durham County budget presented Monday

Durham County Manager Michael Ruffin will present his budget proposal for the 2010-11 fiscal year Monday during the regular meeting of the county commissioners.

The meeting, at 200 E. Main St. on the second floor, is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m.

Durham City Manager Thomas Bonfield has already announced a plan to raise property taxes by 1.19 cents to help offset costs for voter-approved bond projects. The increase would bring the tax rate to 55.19 cents per $100 valuation.

Educators in the Durham Public Schools are anticipating cuts to school funding as well.
