Inmate found dead at Central Prison

A corrections officer at Central Prison found an inmate dead in his cell early Thursday, authorities said

The officer was conducting an hourly headcount at 1 a.m. and found Dion Villano had hanged himself with a sheet, authorities said.

Prison medical staff attempted to resuscitate Villano, but he was pronounced dead by a doctor in the prison's emergency room.

Villano, 40, was being held on pending charges from Dare County.

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case, which is standard procedure, authorities said.
