Durham ABC store to close

One of two remaining liquor stores with counter service in Durham County will close its doors later this month.

The ABC store at 905 Fayetteville St. has been in operation for about 55 years, a board spokeswoman said.

Counter service -- where customers request a product and a staffer retrieves it -- is being phased out in favor of self-service stores. The facility is very old and out-dated, the spokeswoman said.

The store will close on Feb. 27.
