The 10-year-old Edgecombe County Detention Center has received $40,000 in upgrades, the sheriff says.
The improvements include additional razor wire for fences, an updated alarm system and new security cameras, Sheriff James Knight said Monday.

Deputies have also been retrained and jailers are now performing additional inspections on a daily basis.
"I take security at this facility seriously," Knight said.
The changes come following three inmate escapes at Edgecombe County detention facilities over the past year.
The detention center received the $40,000 in security funds through a grant, Knight said.
