Wayne County sheriff's deputies arrested a Newton Grove man Wednesday on charges of trafficking methamphetamine.

Deputies stopped James Alton Williford, 54, of 309 Clinton St., for a minor traffic violation. After finding probable cause, deputies searched Williford.

The search turned up crystal meth with a potential street value of $42,098, investigators said.

Williford was charged with two counts of trafficking meth and one count of maintaining a vehicle for the sale or production of a controlled substance. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.
